Siemens Water Technologies Offers Resin Analysis Service
The Water Technologies division of the Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) offers an ion exchange resin analysis service. The service includes testing the customer's resin in the laboratory to determine the quality and to help diagnose any water treatment system operating problems.
When a customer experiences ion exchange system performance problems, such as premature resin exhaustion or poor water quality, Siemens Water Technologies recommends testing the resin. The test verifies whether the resin is fouled and should be cleaned or replaced, or whether there are other performance-related issues that need to be addressed.
"Resin testing can quickly identify the cause of any problems or future problems, thus saving the customer from unnecessarily replacing the resin and potentially not addressing a performance issue," says David Moyer, manager of analytical services at Siemens Water Technologies. "This can ultimately save the customer thousands of dollars by helping them to determine when it's more economical to clean versus replace their resin beds."
Customers may request that a Siemens Water Technologies' service technician visit their site to collect the resin sample for testing. Or, customers may collect the resin sample themselves with a kit provided by Siemens. After collecting a 0.25 to 1.0-liter resin sample, the customer returns the sample to our lab. Siemens can perform tests on cation, anion and mixed-bed resin samples, providing the customer with an analytical report that contains: total resin capacity; salt splitting capacity (anion only); percent moisture; iron fouling; particle size analysis; and capacity after cleanup, if indicated. Each specific test includes a printout of the results with information on the resin's condition and the anticipated effects on the ion exchange system's operation. In addition to these tests, Siemens can conduct specific resin performance tests to isolate performance issues.
After customers receive the test report, they can contact resin experts at Siemens to discuss the results or have a service technician visit their site. Siemens can provide resin cleaning and reconditioning, bulk resin service, turnkey resin removal and replacement services, and ion exchange resin system optimization.
