Siemens commissions MBR waste water treatment system at Wuxi Xincheng, China
The MBR system at Wuxi Xincheng integrates the conventional biological treatment process with membrane filtration using Siemens’ Memcor membranes. It can significantly reduce both nitrogen and phosphorus in the treated effluent by breaking down the organic nutrients and filtering the solids. Compared with conventional technology, the MBR system requires about 75% less footprint to install, which is important for existing plants with limited space. The proven MBR technology from Siemens has been applied to more than 70 facilities around the world.
Siemens completed this MBR project within 12 months after signing the contract. “I am very proud of our success with the Wuxi Xincheng project,” said Dr. Henrik Alt, General Manager of Siemens Water Technologies in Beijing, China, “More and more existing wastewater treatment plants in China are facing added pressure to meet stricter requirements for water treatment. Our broad portfolio and integrated solutions can help customers meet this challenge.“
Located in the highly developed and densely populated Yangtze River Delta, the Taihu Lake has been increasingly polluted in recent years. As part of its efforts to clean up the Lake, Jiangsu province set out to improve sewage treatment capacities in cities surrounding the lake area. The MBR system will allow the Xincheng plant to better serve over 100 high tech enterprises in the Wuxi New District’s industrial park, which has experienced a 20 to 25 percent annual increase in wastewater.
“The availability of enough safe water and the effective treatment of wastewater is an increasingly complex challenge in China,” comments Mr. Tim Dawidowsky, General Manager of Siemens Industry Solutions Division. “As a world leading solutions integrator, we’re committed to contribute not only solutions but more importantly our know-how and expertise to help China realize the goal of sustainable development.”
Memcor membrane systems are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2009, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €23 billion, making Siemens the world’s largest supplier of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their CO2 emissions by 210 million tons.
