With its all-inclusive solution packages for the mining industry, Siemens offers companies new ways of reducing their investment and operating costs and making production more efficient. “We combine drive technology and power supply with automation and mechanical aspects to create new solutions that have fewer interfaces and are less complex,” explained Bernd Zehentbauer, head of business administration for Siemens Mining Technologies at the 3rd international “Media Summit Metals and Mining Technologies” fair of the company in Moscow. This reduces the level of investment and is setting new standards when it comes to operating costs. “Our goal is to ensure the profitability of mining facilities and the sustainability in the area of opencast mining in an economically difficult environment,” emphasized Zehentbauer. -->more

World's First Ore-Grinding Mill with Frozen Charge Shaker Starts Operating in Brazil - Siemens Drive Solution Increases Availability and Productivity in Gold Mine
World's First Ore-Grinding Mill with Frozen Charge Shaker Starts Operating in Brazil - Siemens Drive Solution Increases Availability and Productivity in Gold Mine
Tuesday, May 19, 2009
In the “Paracatu” gold mine belonging to the Canadian based mining company Kinross Gold Corporation, Siemens started up the world's first ore-grinding mill with the Frozen Charge Shaker function in December 2008. With the help of this solution, which is integrated in the Simine Mill GD gearless mill drive, charge that has become firmly attached (frozen) to the inside wall of the mill can be removed as required. This prevents the mill from being damaged as a result of charge falling down in an uncontrolled manner and also, simultaneously, reduces maintenance times considerably. Given that production is worth thousands of US dollars per hour, a production loss of several million US dollars incurred for each maintenance cycle can be avoided. -->more

Hanover Fair 2009: Siemens sets the focus on cost-effective innovations and energy efficient solutions
Thursday, March 12, 2009
Siemens views the current economic environment as a good opportunity to increase its market share in industrial equipment and solutions. “It is especially in times of changing economic conditions that industrial companies expect systematic solutions that help cut costs while also securing their investment. As leading industry suppliers we are deliberately targeting energy-efficient and cost-effective innovations which permit our customers to achieve an early return on investment”, stated Klaus Helmrich, CEO of the Drive Technologies Division at a Siemens trade press conference prior to the Hanover Fair 2009. Against the backdrop of declining greenfield business, it is efficiency, flexibility and reliability of existing plants which have gained in importance. “Here, economical operations go hand in hand with environmental protection using green solutions”, stated Jens Wegmann, CEO of Siemens Industry Solutions. “In a large number of modernization projects, they help us save more than three quarters of the cost of energy.” -->more
